Thank You Pinterest

Our good friend, Evan, from college came for a visit.  He and Ryan have enjoyed a few trips to the beach, some frisbee golf and now some manly work building stuff.  Evan, thanks for helping Ryan tackle his to do list...it seems like the only day he has the ability to do it these days is Sundays and we both are unwilling to give up our day of rest for a silly to do list!
I saw this on a blog that I have started following thanks to pinterest.  Hers is much nicer, but mine works just fine.  I am happy with the finished product-no more bending or squatting to put clothes into the washer/dryer!  It also only cost us about $45 which is awesome!

When is it Too Early?

While Ryan was working in the garage Samuel started pushing the lawn mower around.  Is it too early to pass the baton?

My Sweet Littlest Man

Charlie and I have some fun hanging out while big brother is in preschool.  Monday we cleaned brother's room, organized his closet and even made sure a good bit of his toys were still fun to play with.  I love my little Charlie Man and am so glad to have a couple mornings to just soak his smiles and giggles up all to myself!

One of Our New Favorite Things

We have two swings outside, but of course one gets used 99% of the time.  Samuel wants to ride in the bucket seat where Charlie sits.  I offered to put up the other bucket seat, but then of course Samuel wants his big boy swing back!  Anyway, Samuel has now created a way to ride with Charlie and they both seem to really love it!  Of course I doubt I will ever get a picture with both of them smiling and looking at the camera, so here a bunch of the "good ones".  Loving this soon to be fall weather and the fact that our outdoors times will increase for several weeks!

Good Eaters

Charlie is eating anything and everything these days.  He is not loving being fed baby food as much, he'd much rather pick things up with his hands.  We are still limited to just a few foods because we're still sporting just one lonely tooth, but that doesn't stop us from trying!  Samuel is also learning that not everything is yucky, which is nice!  Every night Samuel must try at least everything on his plate once, and usually he realizes that what I feed him is good!  I love that my boys are willing to try almost anything!

Dinner time tonight was mixed veggies, cheese, grapes, and meat baby food.  He was still hungry, and VERY loud about it, so he also got a slice of bread!

Trying some beets.  He wouldn't open his mouth until I dubbed these purple circles "purple cookies".  Samuel had a few bites and then said, "mommy, these don't taste like cookies".  It was worth a shot!

Charlie had beets today too.  He had a few bites and then wasn't so interested.  So I just mixed it into his fruit and he ate it like a champ!

Charlie's New Favorite Place

Charlie LOVES to climb up on the bottom shelf of our TV center.  This is where we keep a small basket of toys and instead of standing up to grab a toy out of it he just climbs up and sits there to play with his toys!

A little blurry, but so happy to be getting so big!

First Day of Preschool

Today was a very exciting day in the Powell house.  Samuel started preschool.  We have been talking about it for a few weeks now and until just a few days ago Samuel wasn't showing any signs of being excited or scared or really any kind of emotions.  Since Sunday he has been asking every day if he could go to school today.  Well the day finally came and he reacted very differently than I had expected.
Since we have been talking about preschool we have been talking about having new classmates, new teachers, and fun things to do.  We have been talking about how he needed to make sure he was following directions and that he was kind to his new friends.  We have been reciting a few Bible verses and praying them together.  Our favorite ones, in regards to preschool, are...

Philippians 2:14  Do everything without arguing or complaining.
Matthew 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
Proverbs 20:11 Even a child is known by his deeds.

We have been talking about following directions and obeying his teachers the first time he is asked to do something.  We have also been talking a lot about how to treat his friends and that he should treat them with kindness, and to be a peacemaker.  Samuel has also been learning that others see him and how he acts and that he should behave in a way that demonstrates Jesus and the love he has for others.

I have been a little apprehensive about how he will act in a class with 15 other children and will continue to pray daily that he has so much fun, that he is kind and listens well.  I was so excited for today and a little anxious for the report I would get from his teachers.  Samuel is so full of energy that sometimes he just doesn't know how to let it out and that is why I knew he was ready for preschool, but it also made me a little nervous that I would have the crazy kid in the class.  I know that time will tell, but our prayers will continue with him and on our own.  We know that Samuel will be learning more about Jesus at preschool and we will be able to build on that at home and for that we are so thankful!

Samuel decided that when I was going to take his picture that he was going to "be shy" and didn't quite want to cooperate.  He cried a lot this morning before we left the house, which is totally out of character for him.  I began to worry that there were going to be many tears shed for the rest of the morning.  He did pull it together when we got to the "donut store" for his "special treat breakfast".  When we got to school he was all smiles and was very ready to go to his classroom, wear his "backback" inside like all the other kids, play on the pirate ship and to head into his classroom to play toys.  I am glad he got back to his happy self once we got to school.  It certainly made it much easier for me to leave!

This picture really isn't that great, it's mainly to show how HUGE that backpack is on our little guy!

The ship that resides right outside Samuel's classroom.  I have a feeling his teachers are going to have quite the struggle getting him away from the ship!

Waiting for Daddy to Come Home

We have been playing in the little bit of shade we get on our driveway lately.  Samuel is always pretty antsy for his daddy to come home from work, so we often head out to the driveway and play around for a while until daddy comes home!

Notice Samuel not using the pedals, not quite sure how to get him to use them...

Samuel found a millipede.  He has been very interested in these lately, mainly because we see tons of them everywhere.  He gets so excited to hold them and then has very little patience waiting for them to uncurl once he has picked it up!

Charlie decided he needed to call daddy to see when he would be home
